 THE FIVE ELEMENT THEORY

                        According to the Five Element Theory, the human being is a small model of the universe. What exists in the human body exists in altered form in the universal body. Ayurveda believes that everything is made up of five elements, or building blocks: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. Their properties are important in understanding balances and imbalances in the human body.
 
Earth is representative of the solid state of matter; it manifests stability, fixity and rigidity. We see around us rocks and soil standing against the wearing forces of water and wind. Our body also manifests this earth/solid-state structure: ones, cells and tissue are physical structures through which our blood courses and oxygen is transported. Earth is considered a stable substance.
 
Water characterizes change. In the outer world we see water moving through its cycles of evaporation/clouds/condensation/rain, we see it moving around solid matter such as rocks and mountains, and we see it eventually wearing away solid, immovable matter as it flows from the mountains to the sea. We see rivers carrying dissolved soil and nutrients, carrying economic trade and exchange of information and culture – we see the earth’s bodies of water nurturing life everywhere. Out blood, lymph and other fluids move between our cells and through our vessels, bringing energy, and carrying away wastes, regulating temperature, bringing disease fighters and carrying hormonal information from one area to another. Water is considered a substance without stability.
 
Fire is the power to transform solids to liquids, to gas, and back again. The heat of the sun melts ice into water that becomes vapor under its influence. Fire provides power to the water and weather cycles of nature. The sun’s energy is the initiator of all energy cycles on earth – including all food chains. Within our bodies, it is fire (energy) that binds the atoms of our molecules together; that converts food to fat (stored energy) and muscle; that turns (burns) food into energy; that creates the impulses of nervous reactions, our feelings, and even our thought processes. Fire is considered form without substance.
 
Air is the gaseous form of matter, which is mobile and dynamic. We do not see the air that blows through the tree’s leaves, but we feel it. We know how material it can be – how it can respond to energy, absorb it, and give it off – when we watch or experience a hurricane, typhoon or tornado. We feel air as it courses down our throats and into our lungs – cut that off for more than a few minutes and we know with our whole being how fundamental air is to life. Within the body, air (oxygen) is the basis for all energy transfer reactions – oxidation. Clean and pure, it is a key element required for fire to burn. Air is existence without form.
 
Ether is the space in which everything happens. Like outer space with millions of miles between celestial bodies, or the inner space of our bodies where our very atoms are only .00001 charged particle and .99999 emptiness. Space, the distance between things – that which helps to define one thing from another. Ether is only the distances which separate matter.
 
THE THREE MAIN ELEMENTS
 
In Ayurvedic philosophy, the five elements combine in pair to form three dynamic forces (interactions) called Doshas. Dosha means “that which changes” because Doshas are constantly moving in dynamic balance, one with the others. Doshas are primary life forces or biological humors. They are only found in life forms (similar to the concepts of organic chemistry), and their dynamism is what makes life happen.

AIR+SPACE Personalities is a force conceptually made up of the elements ether and air. The proportions of ether and air determine how active AIR personality is. The amount of ether (space) affects the ability of air to gain momentum, as expressed in Personality. In the movement (a dynamism of the combination between ether and air), and manifests itself in living things as the movement of nerve impulses, air, blood, food, waste and thoughts.
 
AIR has Seven characteristics,
 
Cold, Light, Irregular, Mobile, Rarefied, Dry and Rough.
 
These qualities characterize their effect on the body. Too much AIR Element force can cause nerve irritation, high blood pressure, gas and confusion. Too little AIR element, we have nerve loss, congestion, constipation and thoughtlessness.
                       
FIRE+WATER is a force conceptually created by the dynamic interplay of water and fire. These two seemingly opposed forces represent transformation. They cannot change into each other, but they modulate each other and are vitally necessary to each other in the life processes.
 
            In our bodies FIRE is manifested by the quality of transformation. FIRE is the enzymes which digest our food and the hormones which regulate our metabolism. In our mind, the FIRE force is the transformation of chemical/electrical impulses into understood thoughts. Too much FIRE Element can cause ulcers, hormonal, imbalance, irritated skin (acne), ad consuming emotions (anger). Too little FIRE Element and we have indigestion, inability to understand, and sluggish metabolism.
                       
The FIRE force is described according to Eight characteristics:
 
Hot, Light, Fluid, Subtle, Sharp, Malodorous, Soft and Clear.
 
EARTH+WATER is the conceptual equilibrium of water and earth. EARTH&WATER is structure and lubrication – it draws on the conceptual characteristics of the elements of earth and water. At one level, EARTH is the cells which make up our organs and the fluids which nourish and protect them.
 
                        In the Ayurveda organization of cause and effect, too much EARTH Element causes mucous buildup in the sinus and nasal passages, the lungs and colon. In the mind it creates rigidity, a fixation of thought, inflexibility. Not enough EARTH Element causes the body to experience a dry respiratory tract, burning stomach (due to lack of mucous, which gives protection from excess stomach acids), and inability to concentrate.
 
EARTH Element is expressed according to the following Six qualities:
 
Oil, Cold, Heavy, Stable, Dense and Smooth.
 
CHANGING FORCES
 
These three dynamic forces are constantly changing and balancing each other in all living thing things. They make life happen. In a plant, AIR+SPACE is concentrated in the flowers and leaves (which reach farthest out into space and air), EARTH+WATER is concentrated in the roots (where water is stored in the embraces of earth), and FIRE+WATER is found in the plants essential oils, resins and sap (especially in spices which stimulate digestion). Different plants have different concentrations of A-F-E (AIR, FIRE & EARTH). We can use different foods, plants, and specific plants parts to alter our body’s proportion of A-F-E. Eating root vegetables, a milk product, or sedating herbs like valerian, increases our EARTH. Drinking herbal flowers like jasmine, or eating dry grains, increases our AIR forces. Eating hot, spicy foods like cayenne, or concentrated protein like bee pollen, increases our FIRE tendencies.
 
CLIMATE INFLUENCES
The climates we live in and the change of seasons also add or subtract from our A-F-E balance. Hot summers or hot moist climates increase our FIRE. Dry climates or cold autumn winds increase AIR. We winters and damp (dry) climates add to EARTH.
 
LIFE STAGES
The stage of life we are in also affects A-F-E balance. The increase in the substance of the body which occurs during childhood growth means that EARTH forces are dominant during this cycle of life. The hormone changes which transform us into adults indicate that our early and middle years are under FIRE influences. As we age, we can shrink and dry out, indicating an increase of AIR forces.
 
ELEMENT CYCLES OF THE DAY 
 
EARTH ELEMENT I Cycle 6.00 a.m. – 10.00 a.m.
All movements slow down, If you sleep past 6.00 a.m. it’s harder to get up and you fell groggy. Food eaten now will not digest as well and should be light.
 
FIRE ELEMET I Cycle 10.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m.
 
Your metabolism gears up to its highest at 12:00 noon. This is the best time to eat your largest or most concentrated meal and take vitamins for greatest absorption.
 
AIR ELEMENT I Cycle 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
 
A time of increased movement and activity. Your evening meal should be lighter than lunch. Mental activity and conversation should be lively.
 
EARTH ELEMENT II Cycle 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
 
The energy slows down for bed and rest. Sleep will come easily and quickly. If you don‘t go to sleep by 10:00 p.m., you may toss and turn, especially if you eat late.
 
FIRE ELEMENT II Cycle 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
 
Time of active, colorful dreams and deep sleep. If you happen to stay up, your metabolism may get geared up for a late night snack and activities, which you will regret the next day.
 
AIR ELEMENT II Cycle 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.
 
Corresponds to the ascending universal currents which are used by mediators to achieve high spiritual states. If you wake up at 4:00 or 5:00 a.m. and do spiritual exercise it will stay with you all day long as focused energy. If you sleep past 6:00 a.m., you fall into lethargic EARTH time.
 
AIR ELEMENT:
 
The dry quality of AIR ELEMENT is manifested in the body as dry skin and thin structure i.e. lean body. The hair, nails, teeth and eyes appear dry. The voice is weak, low, crackling and hoarse. These individuals require little sleep and are hyperactive. The movements of the individuals - especially of the eyebrows, chin, lips, tongue and limbs are quick and unsteady. The expansive nature is manifest in prominent blood vessels. Due to quick action, the individual shows early initiative in work but because of the dry quality he loses strength and becomes tired. Their memory is weak but they have a quick grasp. Due to the cold nature, the body temperature is low and body stiff. The natural desires and craving for food and environment are opposite to the qualities of air. They have meager seminal fluid and have only a few children. They tend to have a short life span.
 
FIRE ELEMENT:
 
 Due to the inherent hot quality of FIRE ELEMENT, these individuals have a high metabolic rate, a tendency to eat and drink a lot and are often thirsty. They develop moles and skin eruptions. They possess soft and scanty hair and tend to be prematurely grey and bald. They are unable to bear even minimum heat. They are brave and courageous but cannot tolerate exertion. They get easily provoked and upset. The fluid quality makes the body parts, muscles and joints soft and flabby. The high metabolic rate leads to excessive perspiration and excretion. The foul smell of the FIRE ELEMENT tends to give them a strong body odour. The quality of heat and pungent taste leads to limited sexual urge, scanty semen and limited progeny. Due to the sharp and quick action, they have a very good intellect, grasping power, memory and are of moderate strength and the life span is medium.
 

EARTH ELEMENT:
 
Due to the unctuous nature of EARTH ELEMENT, the individuals of EARTH ELEMENT possess unctuous and oily skin. The soft quality of EARTH ELEMENT makes the face soft, the looks gentle and clear. The sweet quality gives them a large quantity of semen and they have a strong sexual urge. The stable and steady quality endows them with a well-built and steady body. The dense nature provides fullness to the body and organs. The slow quality of EARTH ELEMENT makes the individuals slow in their activities but they have strong perseverance and are emotionally very mild. They have steady and slow body movements. The cold quality results in poor appetite (their Agni or digestion is poor) and low body temperature. The steady and dense quality gives them steady joints and ligaments. The clear quality gives rise to a pleasant appearance, colours and voice. All the qualities of EARTH ELEMENT endow the individual with strength, wealth and energy and also a long life.
 

ELEMENTS AND DIET:
 
Dietary requirement should be modified according to the ELEMENT (constitution) of the individual. In general, an individual with AIR ELEMENT should take unctuous, warm, and sweet substances. One with FIRE ELEMET should take cool, heavy, sweet, bitter and astringent food articles and EARTH ELEMENT person should consume food in which dry, warm, light, pungent, bitter and astringent tastes predominate. The diet chart gives the beneficial and non-beneficial food articles.
 
SUSCEPTIBILITY TO DISEASES:
 
AIR ELEMENT individuals are prone to diseases of the neurological system especially motor functions. The disease mostly affects the lower limbs since they are the predominant seat of AIR ELEMENT. Also, these diseases are pronounced during the old age, which is the period of AIR ELEMENT. Some of these diseases are Tetanus, Wasting disorders (Muscular Atrophy), Spasms, Hemiplegic, Convulsions, Headache, Insomnia, Angina (Hridgraha), Dysuria, Rheumatism (Amavata), Osteoporosis, Fissures on palm and soles (vipaadika), Swelling and Stiffness of the Thighs (Urushthambha), Brachial palsy (Apabahuka) etc.


Those with FIRE ELEMENT are prone to diseases of the Digestive and Metabolic systems. The diseases mostly affect the abdomen i.e. the area between the breast and umbilicus. Also, FIRE ELEMENT disorders are pronounced in the middle aged which is the period of FIRE ELEMENT like intense localized Burning Sensation, Stomatitis, Acid Regurgitation, Jaundice, Bleeding Disorders, Bluish discoloration of the skin etc.
 
Individuals with EARTH ELEMENT are prone to disorders of the Respiratory system especially Phlegmatic disorders. The diseases affect the upper parts of the body i.e. chest and above. Also, the disorders are pronounced during the early ages (childhood), which is the period of EARTH ELEMENT. For example: Drowsiness, Excessive Sleep, Obesity, Swelling of the neck (Karaganda), Skin eruptions, Congestion of the Chest with Phlegm, Pleura etc.
 
THE QUALITIES OF THE THREE ELEMENTS
 
The Three ELEMENTS possess qualities and their increase or decrease in the system depends upon the similar or antagonistic qualities of everything ingested.

AIR is: Dry, Cold, Light, Mobile, Clear, Rough & Subtle.

FIRE is: Slightly Oily, Hot, Intense, Light, Fluid, Free Flowing & Foul Smelling.

EARTH is: Oily, Cold, Heavy, Stable, Viscid, Smooth & Soft
 
Both AIR and FIRE are LIGHT and only EARTH is HEAVY.

BothAIR and EARTH are COLD and only FIRE is HOT.

Both FIRE and EARTH are MOIST and OILY and only AIR is DRY.
 
 
Through Ayurdic books, teachers, and courses, one is able to determine one's individual constitution and thereby knowing which direction to take for self-diagnosis purposes.
A balance among the tridosha(three element is necessary for health. For example, the air principle kindles the bodily fire, but water is necessary to control fire, otherwise the bodily fire would burn the tissues. AIR moves EARTH and FIRE, since EARTH and FIRE are immobile. Together, the triELEMENTS governs all metabolic activities; anabolism (EARTH), catabolism (AIR), and metabolism (FIRE). When AIR is out of balance, the metabolism will be disturbed, resulting in excess catabolism, which is the breakdown or deterioration process in the body. When anabolism is greater than catabolism, there is an increased rate of growth and repair of the organs and tissues. Excess FIRE disturbs metabolism, excess EARTH increases the rate of anabolism and excess AIR creates emaciation (catabolism).
 
In childhood, anabolism and the EARTH elements are predominant, since this is the time of greatest physical growth. In adulthood, metabolism and the element of FIRE are most apparent, because at this stage the body is matured and stable. In old age, catabolism and AIR are most evident, as the body begins to deteriorate.
 
CHACTERSITICS OF BODY TYPES
 
For a better understanding of your Ayurvedic constitution and to cross-check the results of the test, listed below are the principal physical and psychological characteristics of persons with predominantly single Dosha constitutions.
 
AIR ELEMENT:
 
Physically such people are very tall or very short, non- muscular, with thin and bony limbs and have a quick gait with short fast steps. Skin is generally thin, darkish and cool. The hair is thin, dark, coarse and either kinky or curly. The face is usually long and angular, often with an underdeveloped chin. The neck is thin and scrawny. Nose is small and narrow. May be long, crooked or asymmetrical also. Eyes tend to be small, narrow or sunken, dark brown or gray in color, with dull luster. The mouth being small, with thin, narrow or tight lips. Teeth are irregular, protruding, or broken, set in receding gums. And while the voice is weak, low or cracked, speech is fast with interruptions.

AIR ELEMENT people have restless minds and weak memories. They avoid confrontation. Have active and sensitive natures and express themselves through sport and creative pursuits. Likely to be artistic and creative with a good imagination, they will sometimes overindulge in pleasures. And are sexually the most active. Fearful, worrisome and anxious they are into questioning, theorizing and over-analysis. Often dissatisfied with and unable to sustain friendships, they spend money quickly, often on trifles. With light, interrupted sleep of 5-7 hours a day.
 
FACTORS THAT INCREASE AIR ELEMENT
 
Exposure to cold, no routine in your life, eating too much dry, frozen or leftover food, or food with bitter, pungent or astringents taste.

Fasting, too much traveling, too much or inappropriate exercise, suppressing natural urges, abdominal surgery.
Not oiling the skin.
 
FIRE ELEMENT:
 
A moderately well developed physique with muscular limbs and a purposeful, stable gait of medium speed. With a loud, strong voice and precise, convincing speech. The skin is fair, soft, and lustrous, warm, and tends to burn easily in the sun – has freckles, many moles, and a tendency to rashes. And the bodies are hot and sweaty. Characterized by fine and soft, either fair or reddish hair that tends to gray soon. Face is heart-shaped, often with a pointed chin. While the neck is proportionate and of average size. A neat, pointed, and average sized nose matches the average sized eyes that are either light blue, light gray or hazel in color, with an intense luster which get red in summer or after bathing. The mouth being medium, with average lips and medium-sized, yellowish teeth.

FIRE ELEMENT PEOPLE have an intellectual and precise disposition due to a very alert, focused mind. Sharp and knife-like in anger, they are irritable, jealous and aggressive by nature. Discriminating and judgmental, they are articulate, learned and proud. With a developed sense of responsibility, they can take decisions and organize affairs well. Argumentative, but with a sense of humour, their selectively excellent memory makes them fast learners. Moderately passionate in their sexual pursuits, they spend moderately, usually on luxuries.
 
FACTORS THAT INCREASE FIRE ELEMENT 
 
Exposure to heat, eating too much red meat, salt, spicy or sour foods. Indigestion and irregularity of meals. Exercising at midday, Drugs especially antibiotics.

Too much intellectual work/thinking. Alcohol, Fatigue, Anger, Hate fear, emotion.
 
EARTH ELEMENT:
 
A thick, broad, well-developed frame and large, long limbs go well with a pleasant, deep and resonant voice with low, slow, rhythmic speech. The skin is usually thick, oily, pale or white and cold. Plentiful, thick, wavy, lustrous and generally brown hair is set on a large, rounded and full face. The neck is solid, with a near tree-trunk quality. A large, rounded nose and large, attractive, blue or light brown in color eyes are found in a mouth that is large with big, full lips. Teeth too are big and white and set in strong gums.

EARTH ELEMENT predominated people are calm, steady, considerate - stable, patient personalities they are slow to anger. Not easily provoked, once angry they do not calm down easily. They are honorable, true to their word and avoid lies. Loyal, forgiving and understanding, they can be lethargic, even lazy, if not driven by others. Learning may be slow but memory will be strong. Excellent in logical analysis, they take time before reaching conclusions. Long hours of deep sleep and a strong, enduring sex drive come naturally. While they do save money, it does get spent on food. And there can at times be an element of dullness, given a  mind is usually too content to seek fresh mental stimulation.
 
FACTORS THAT INCREASE EARTH ELEMENT 
 
Exposure to cold , eating too much sweet ,meat ,fats, cheese, milk, ice cream, yogurt, fried food, excessive use of salt. Excessive intake of water, taking naps after meals. Doing nothing .Sedative and tranquilizers. Doubts, greed, and possessiveness. Lack of comapation

SAMA (Tri-ELEMENT)
 
SAMA (Tri-ELEMENT) is most ideal type very rarely seen especially like lords. You can perform best in all aspects even in adverse conditions like  
  • Research & Development,
  • Social sciences
  • Politics
  • Executives & Judges those who should not be bias minded.
You don't have to follow any special precautions in all seasons. You will suffer all things which are common ethics to be followed. 
  • Extreme climates of polls like Arabic heat or European winter. 
  • Do have regular food without fermentation, artificial flavors. 
  • Excess food with excess alcohol, late night hangovers etc. 
  • Do take Yogasana exercises and meditation for the best of life
 
THE THREE ELEMENT TYPES:
  1. AIR ELEMENT: Energy that control bodily functions associated with motion, including blood-circulation, breathing, blinking, and your heartbeat.
  1. In Balance: There is Creativity and Vitality.
  2. Out of Balance: can produce Fear and Anxiety.
  1. FIRE ELEMENT: Energy that controls the body’s metabolic systems, including digestion, absorption, nutrition, and your body temperature.
  1. In Balance: Leads to Contentment and Intelligence.
  2. Out of Balance: Can cause Ulcers and Anger.
  1. EARTH ELEMENT: Energy that controls growth in body. It supplies water to all body parts, moisturizes the skin, and maintains the immune system.
  1. In Balance: Expressed as Love and Forgiveness.
  2. Out of Balance: Can lead to Insecurity and Envy
Here we are recommending foods to balance each of the THREE ELEMENTS.
 
AIR ELEMENT

The qualities of AIR are Cold, Dry, Light, Hard, and Rough.
 
AIR ELEMENT PACIFYING FOODS:
 
General: excess AIR can be counterbalanced with nutritive and tissue-building foods that are warm, moist, heavy, soft and oily, as well as foods with a sweet, sour and salty taste. For example, AIR pacifying foods include ghee, soft dairy products, wheat, rice, corn and bananas. A person with a AIR ELEMENT constitution should favor foods like hot cereal with ghee, hearty soups and vegetables, and whole cooked grains and chapattis. Spicy foods are generally okay for AIR ELEMENT.
Vegetables: Asparagus, beets, carrots, cucumber, green beans, okra (bhindi), onions and garlic, radishes, sweet potatoes, turnips.
Fruits: Bananas, coconuts, dates, mangoes, melons, peaches, all sweet fruits in general.
Grains: Oats, rice and wheat
 
AIR ELEMENT AGGRAVATING FOODS:
 
General: Foods with the AIR ELEMENT qualities, such as crackers, frozen desserts, and large amounts of raw vegetables and salads, will aggravate AIR ELEMENT. Also, refined foods such as white flour and sugar have light and dry qualities and would be best avoided by people with AIR ELEMENT constitutions. Pungent, bitter, astringent; light, dry, cold foods, stimulants like smoking, alcohol, junk food, sugar, tea (esp. long leaf teas and green tea), brown rice.
Vegetables: Cabbage, cauliflower, celery, brinjal, leafy green vegetables, mushrooms, peas, peppers (simla mirch) potatoes, sprouts, tomatoes, zucchini (tori). If you do have these vegetables cook them in pure desi ghee or unrefined til oil. Tomatoes are best avoided except as a small addition to salads.

Fruits: Apples, pears, pomegranates.
 
Spices: Vatas can have almost all spices and herbs in moderation When there is aggravated Vata, the following are to be taken with caution: coriander seeds (dhaniya powder), fenugreek (methi seeds), saffron, turmeric, parsley. Avoid too many hot, dry spices such as dried chili, which will aggravate dryness.
 
FIRE ELEMENT 
 
FIRE ELEMENT properties are Hot, Sharp, Oily and Light.
 
FIRE ELEMENT PACIFYING FOODS:
 
General: you can balance excess FIRE with foods that are cool, dry and heavy with a mild, naturally sweet, bitter or astringent taste. For example, milk, rice, beans, steamed vegetables and fruit are good for FIRE ELEMENT people. Mild spices like cumin, coriander and cilantro are particularly beneficial for FIRE ELEMENT. Sweet, bitter, astringent; cold, heavy, dry. Moderation, coolness, ghee, coconut oil, olive oil, green coriander (dhaniya), coriander seeds, cardamom, sprouts and raw foods.
 
Vegetables & Fruits: can eat most vegetables and fruits. Exceptions are given below.
Grains: Barley, oats, wheat, parboiled rice.
 
FIRE ELEMENT AGGRAVATING FOODS:
 
General: pungent and oily foods such as curry, fried foods and spicy condiments, as well as spices such as cayenne, garlic and dry ginger, should be avoided by FIRE ELEMENT constitutions. Pungent, sour, salty, hot, light, oily. Stimulants like smoking, alcohol, coffee, pickles, vinegar, fried foods, spicy foods, fermented foods, curds, almond, and corn, til, mustard oil.

Vegetables: Beets, carrots, brinjal, garlic, hot peppers, onions, spinach, tomatoes.
Fruit: Sour and unripe fruits. If there is aggravated FIRE ELEMENT avoids grapefruit, papayas, peaches, bananas, apricots.

Grains: Brown rice, corn, millet, rye.
 
EARTH ELEMENT
 
The qualities of EARTH ELEMET are Cold, Heavy, Liquid and Unctuous.
 
EARTH ELEMENT PACIFYING FOODS:
 
General: To balance EARTH ELEMENT dominance, eat smaller amounts of food and emphasize food with AIR ELEMENT properties of light and dry. Also, foods which are dry, hot or sharp are recommended, so look for foods with pungent, bitter or astringent tastes. Examples include puffed cereals such as puffed rice or corn; small, astringent grains, such as millet, amaranth, and quinoa; and light, bitter vegetables such as leafy greens. Spices like ginger, turmeric and chili are generally good for EARTH ELEMENT people.

Favor: Warm light food, dry food cooked without much water, minimum of butter, oil and sugar, stimulating foods (ginger, chilies, pickles), raw foods, salads, fruits.

Vegetables : Generally all vegetables are good, but if you are suffering from any EARTH ELEMENT disorder like lung congestion, congestive asthma, sinuses, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, then avoid all sweet juicy vegetables such as cucumbers, pumpkin family, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, tori, ghiya etc.
 
Fruits: Apples, apricots, pears, pomegranates, dried fruits in general (apricots, figs, prunes, raisins)

Lentils & Legumes: If the ELEMENT is not aggravated all except tofu and kidney beans are acceptable.

Spices: All are good - ginger is best for improving digestion, turmeric is excellent for drying out the mucous, chilies are excellent for removing mucous.
 
EARTH ELEMENT AGGRAVATING FOODS:

General: Foods such as dairy products, wheat, avocados and oils have these qualities and will increase EARTH ELEMENT in the body. Sweet, sour, salty; heavy, oily, cold. Desserts, sweets, ice cream, deep fried foods, possessiveness, miserliness, laziness.

Vegetables: all sweet juicy vegetables such as cucumbers, pumpkin family, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, tori, ghiya etc.


Fruits: All sweet juicy fruits in general.


Lentils & Legumes: Tofu and kidney beans.


Spices: excess salt.
